Jourdain Bell Sets Steals Record in 80-72 Win over Plymouth State

NEW LONDON, N.H. – November 20, 2018 – Colby-Sawyer senior Jourdain Bell (Manchester, N.H.) registered a single-game record nine steals to help the Chargers earn an 80-72 non-league victory over Plymouth State Tuesday evening.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 2-1 and will return to action on Tuesday, November 27 with a game at Rivier. Plymouth State drops to 3-3 and will travel to Castleton on Wednesday, November 28.

Bell previously held the single-game record of eight steals, which he accomplished last November, along with Wol Majong '16. He finished the game with 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Junior Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.) scored 15 points and made 9-of-10 free throws. Sophomore KJ Synvrit (Miami, Fla.) poured in a career-high 17 points. First-year Terrance Harvey Jr. (Smyrna, Ga.) added 13 points in 24 minutes off the bench.

Plymouth State was led by a 22-point effort from junior Jaylen LeRoy (Manchester, N.H.). He added team highs of seven steals and six assists. Junior Joe Simpson (Manchester, N.H.) and first-year Manny Alisandro (Manchester, N.H.) contributed 11 points apiece.

Colby-Sawyer began the game on a 7-0 run and saw the lead balloon to 12 at 17-5 after a pair of Synvrit free throws, eight minutes into the contest. The Chargers would hold a steady lead for the next several minutes until a LeRoy layup brought the Panthers to within seven at 28-21 with less than five minutes on the clock. A mini 5-0 run put the home team back in front by 12 with four minutes to play. The Chargers held off a late rally by the Panthers to take a 38-28 lead into halftime.

Less than two minutes into the second half, Plymouth State cut the deficit in half. The game would go back and forth for the majority of the frame, until the Panthers used an 8-0 run capped by a Mark DiLauro (North Branford, Conn.) fast-break layup to even the score at 65-65 with six minutes to play. The Panthers could only muster seven points the rest of the way and Colby-Sawyer knocked down several free throws down the stretch to secure the 80-72 victory.

Plymouth State outrebounded Colby-Sawyer 45-35, but the Chargers converted 30 free throws to the Panthers' 17.
