Field Hockey Defeats Regis, 5-3

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 6, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team earned a 5-3 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) home victory over Regis on Saturday afternoon.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 9-4 overall and 3-2 in the GNAC. The Chargers will have a quick turnaround with a home noon game on Sunday against UMaine-Farmington. Regis drops to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The Pride will play at New England College on Wednesday evening.

The Chargers were the first to strike when junior Rachel Fisher (Lynn, Mass.) finished a pass from junior Alie Jones (Cape Neddick, Maine). The goal was Fisher's ninth of her career to move into a tie for 10th on the all-time list.

Senior Jordan Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) doubled the home team's lead in the 17th minute with a nifty reverse sweep shot from just inside the circle.

Regis cut the deficit in half in the 25th minute when first-year Hope Celli (Pembroke, Mass.) one-timed a feed from senior Mackenzie Cattaruzza (Guilford, Conn.).

Colby-Sawyer would push its advantage back to a pair thanks to a rebound goal off the stick of sophomore Marissa Nance (Sanford, Maine).

The Pride once again pulled within one, three minutes later, when Aineen Callahan (Diamond Point, N.Y.) recorded a put-back goal.

Teixeira gave the Chargers a 4-2 lead at the break with her seventh goal of the season at 33:35. Similar to her first goal, Teixeira used the reverse shot and sent an aerial over the Regis defenders and into the top of the cage.

Early in the second frame, Teixeira set up teammate Alie Jones for a scoring chance. Jones shot around the oncoming goalie for her team leading ninth tally of the season.

Regis put across a late goal from Ashley Chipman (Stoughton, Mass.), but the Chargers held on for the 5-3 victory.

Colby-Sawyer sophomore goalie Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) made three saves in the win, while sophomore Chelsea Perry (Oakland, Maine) contributed with a defensive save. Regis goalie Hope Winkin (Winslow, Maine) made 12 stops.
