Chargers Win Game One in Extras as Cavossa Strikes Out 10

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - March 24, 2019 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Lesley at the New England Baseball Complex on Sunday. Colby-Sawyer won the first game 7-6 in 8 innings, while Lesley won the second game 9-1.

Lelsey and Colby-Sawyer are each 2-9 on the season. The Chargers will begin Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action tomorrow against Lasell. The doubleheader was originally scheduled for Saturday. The teams will be playing at Brandeis University.

GAME ONE - COLBY-SAWYER 7, LESLEY 6 (8 inn.)

The Chargers were on top 6-4 after four innings, but Lesley plated a pair in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 6-6.

After both teams failed to break the tie in the sixth and seventh frames, the game went to extra innings.

In the top of the eighth, Noah Yeingst hit a sac fly to right field that scored Tim Unczur with the eventual game-winning run.

Colby-Sawyer sophomore Owen Cottle picked up his first career save with a scoreless bottom of the eighth to secure the 7-6 victory.

Yeingst was one of three Chargers with two hits on the day. Liam Datres de la Blotier and Kristian Viljanen also had two hits and an RBI apiece. Danny McCrystal knocked in a pair with a single in the first inning.

Ryan Pumphret went 2-for-3 with a homerun, three runs and a couple of RBI to lead the Lynx. Brendan Fairchild also had a pair of hits and knocked in two runs.

AJ Cavossa got the start for Colby-Sawyer and went the first five innings. He struck out an impressive 10 batters, including four in the second inning. The 10 Ks is tied for sixth most in a game in program history. Derek Griffin tossed two perfect innings of relief and earned his first collegiate victory.

Daniel O'Donnell Jr. suffered the loss for Lesely after five innings of relief work. He gave up two unearned runs on six hits and struck out three.

GAME TWO - LESLEY 9, COLBY-SAWYER 1

Lesley put six runs across in the first and never looked back. Javi Martinez and Matthew Warner each had a two-run homer in the frame.

Warner hit another two-run homer in the third as the Lynx tacked on three runs to take a 9-0 lead.

Colby-Sawyer's run came in the fourth as Austin Butler singled in Jack Cahill

Seven different Chargers had a hit in the game.

Ryan Pumphret added three hits in three at-bats for the Lynx.

Brett Dabrowski got the win for Lesley. He scattered seven hits and allowed just one run in six innings. Nathan Lyons pitched a perfect seventh inning.

Kristian Viljanen and Jack Cahill each tossed a scoreless inning of relief for the Chargers.
