Morin and Schuster Power Chargers Past Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. - April 17, 2019 - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team received six goals apiece from sophomore Sarah Morin (Pelham, N.H.) and Sierra Schuster (Hopkinton, N.H.) in Wednesday's 15-10 non-conference victory at Nichols College.  

Colby-Sawyer improves to 10-4 to reach double-digit wins for the fifth consecutive season and seventh in program history. The Chargers remain perfect against Nichols with a 14-0 all-time record. Colby-Sawyer will wrap up the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) regular season at home on Saturday against undefeated Johnson & Wales. Nichols drops to 2-13 and will host UMaine-Farmington on Saturday. 

Morin also led all players with six ground balls to go with an assist, five caused turnovers and four draw controls. Schuster also added five caused turnovers, four ground balls and an assist. Sophomore Jess Tattersall (Keene, N.H.) contributed a goal, four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Grace Vosburgh (Ludlow, Vt.) tallied a goal and two assists, while Brittany Ireland (Amherst, N.H.) scored once and Shae-Lyn Walker (Newington, N.H.) registered a pair of assists. 

Nichols was led by Lizz McKinnon's five goals. Kirsten Sullivan scored three times, while Miranda Smith and Danielle Kozloski added a goal apiece. Claire Matlak collected a game best seven draw controls.   

Kailyn Lapham (Medway, Mass.) picked up the win in the cage for Colby-Sawyer with nine saves. She improved to 9-4 on the season and now ranks t-3rd in career wins with 20. Emily Eagan finished with 11 saves in the loss for Nichols. 

The Chargers scored five of the game's first six goals to lead 5-1 midway through the first half. Morin had three goals, while Schuster posted a pair in that span. The teams traded the next four goals as Colby-Sawyer kept a comfortable 7-3 lead. Brittany Ireland increased the Chargers' lead to 8-3 with her first tally of the game with 7:24 to play in the frame. The Bison scored the final three goals of the half, all via the free position, including the last two of the half by McKinnon to cut the deficit to 8-6. 

Morin opened the second half scoring to put Colby-Sawyer back on top by three. Less than a minute later, Sullivan had the answer for Nichols. The teams alternated the next four goals as Colby-Sawyer remained in front by two, 11-9, midway through the half. Grace Vosburgh broke a six-minute scoreless drought with her fifth goal of the season to push the Colby-Sawyer lead back to three with 8:39 to play. McKinnon notched her fifth goal of the game at the 3-minute mark to pull the Bison within a pair at 12-10. Jess Tattersall continued the trend of alternating goals, 36 seconds later, to push the Colby-Sawyer advantage to 13-10. The Charges added a couple of insurance goals down the stretch to secure the 15-10 victory.
