Emily Martin Nets Game-Winner in Double Overtime

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 1, 2016 - Colby-Sawyer College and Norwich University could not decide the season opener in regulation, but junior Emily Martin (Amesbury, Mass.) gave the Chargers a 1-0 victory with a goal in the second overtime.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 1-0 and will have a week off before hosting Middlebury on September 7 at 4 p.m. Norwich drops to 0-1 and has a quick turnaround with a home match against Staten Island on Saturday at 5 p.m.

Norwich junior goalie Leandra Flores-Nieves (Colorado Springs, Colo.) kept Colby-Sawyer off the scoreboard for 103 minutes making several game-saving stops before Martin snuck the game-winner under the crossbar.

Colby-Sawyer outshot Norwich 46-6, but Flores-Nieves made 20 saves to keep the Cadets level at 0-0 until double overtime.

Earning her first collegiate win in net for Colby-Sawyer was freshman Sam Mitchell (Chester, N.H.). She made three saves.
