Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Edged by Saint Joseph's, 8-7

STANDISH, Maine - March 13, 2019 - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team was edged by Saint Joseph's (Maine), 8-7, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action under the lights on Wednesday evening. 

Tonight's game was the first-ever meeting between the two teams. Saint Joseph's, which was voted third in the GNAC preseason poll, improves to 1-2. Colby-Sawyer evens its record at 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the GNAC. The Chargers will host Lasell on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Brittany Ireland and Briana Couture had two goals apiece to lead the Chargers. Ireland added three ground balls. Sarah Morin, Sierra Schuster and Grace Vosburgh contributed one goal each. Morin collected four draw controls, while Madison Johansson posted a game-best four caused turnovers. 

Saint Joseph's was led by Maddy Beaulieu's two goals and five ground balls. Liz Callahan tallied a goal and four ground balls. Lydia Dexter registered a goal, an assist, and eight draw controls. 

The Chargers raced out to a 4-1 lead in the first 11 minutes of the contest. After seven minutes of scoreless action, the Monks scored back-to-back goals in less than a minute to cut the deficit to 4-3. Ireland and Vosburgh responded with goals for the Chargers to go in front 6-3 with seven minutes to go in the first frame. With 4:45 remaining, the Monks received a goal from Maelle Tati-Pambou to make the score 6-4 in favor of Colby-Sawyer heading into the break. 

Saint Joseph's turned things around in the second half and converted on a couple of man-up opportunities, which proved to be the difference. A goal from Colby-Sawyer senior Sierra Schuster, 3:32 into the second stanza, put the visitors on top 7-4, but that would be the final tally for the Chargers. Colby-Sawyer held a comfortable lead for the next 10 minutes before Saint Joseph's began its comeback. Liz Callahan notched the team's first man-up goal to pull the Monks within a pair. Two minutes later, Beaulieu's tally made the score 7-6. Kayla Kelly found the equalizer with 9:07 left to play.  

With time running out in the second half, the Monks would go on a two-man advantage. Kara Kelly passed to teammate Beaulieu who found the back of the net with the deciding goal with 1:06 showing on the clock. 

Kailyn Lapham kept the Chargers in the game by making eight saves. Madelyn Nelson allowed six goals and made four saves in the first half, while Kaylin Mansir was credited with the win with one goal allowed and four saves in the second half.
