Field Hockey Defeats Rivier, 5-0

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 27, 2017 – The Colby-Sawyer College field hockey team defeated Rivier University, 5-0, on Wednesday afternoon.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 6-3 and will return to conference action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. home game against New England College. Rivier drops to 1-7 and will travel to Regis for a noon start on Saturday.  

Junior Jordan Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) scored on a backhanded shot from distance in the sixth minute to put the Chargers in front 1-0.

Teixeira doubled Colby-Sawyer's lead, 20 minutes later, with another long distance shot from just inside the circle.

The home team would add three more goals in the second half to take the 5-0 victory.

Freshman Julia Lanctot (Sandown, N.H.) scored her fourth goal of the season six minutes into the second frame.

Senior Kaytlynn Kenney (Newport, N.H.) then notched her first collegiate goal on an assist from sophomore Alie Jones (Cape Neddick, Maine) in the 47th minute.

In the 54th minute, Lanctot inserted a penalty corner to senior Ashley Mikkila (North Oxford, Mass.). Mikkila then sent an aerial towards the cage that snuck under the crossbar for her first goal of the season.

Freshman goalie Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) picked up her fourth shutout of the season for Colby-Sawyer. Rivier junior goalie Emily Foster (Lebanon, N.H.) worked the first half and allowed a pair of goals with six saves. Sophomore Erica Royle (Kingston, Mass.) played the second half and made seven stops.
