Men's Soccer Falls to Clark

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 18, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer College men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 non-conference match to Clark University on Wednesday afternoon at Kelsey Field.

Clark improves to 5-1. The Cougars host Emerson on Saturday at 1 p.m. Colby-Sawyer dips to 1-3-2. The Chargers resume Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday with a 4 p.m. home contest against Regis.

Less than a minute into the contest, Clark was awarded a penalty kick after Colby-Sawyer was whistled for a handball in the box. Senior Charlie Lane (Southborough, Mass.) stepped up to the spot and scored to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

In the 34th minute, Colby-Sawyer found an equalizer on a hustle play by junior Andrew Broening (Budd Lake, N.J.). As the ball was making its way to the end line and Broening was being shielded by a defender, he was able to get around his man and chip the ball back to the top of the six-yard box. First-year Dalton Debold (Reno, Nev.) was there waiting and ripped a shot into the cross corner to tie the match at 1-1.

Two minutes after the Chargers goal, Clark sophomore Brian Brennan (Stoneham, Mass.) used his head to flick a pass from sophomore Alex Maiorano (Shrewsbury, Mass.) past the diving Colby-Sawyer keeper.

In the 40th minute, the Cougars increased their lead to a pair when Maiorano was set up by Brennan and sophomore Derek Jones (Westford, Mass.).

The Cougars tacked on a goal in the second half on their second penalty kick of the contest. Brian Brennan deposited the ball into the back of the net to help secure the 4-1 Clark victory.

Junior Marco White (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) worked the first half in goal for the Cougars and allowed a goal with two saves. First-year Caleb Rosenthl-Vincenti (Stony Brook, N.Y.) played the second half and did not face a shot on target.

Colby-Sawyer keeper Lucas Boetsch (Rockport, Maine) played 58 minutes, allowed three goals and made seven saves. Senior Jarod Parkins (North Kingstown, R.I.) allowed one goal and had one save in 32 minutes.
