Field Hockey Drops 2-0 Decision to Simmons

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 5, 2017 – The Colby-Sawyer College field hockey team fell to Simmons, 2-0, on a beautiful fall afternoon at the Sally Shaw Veitch Turf Field on Thursday.

Simmons improves to 8-3 and will travel to Rivier on Saturday for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest at 1 p.m. Colby-Sawyer falls to 7-4 and will return to North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday at Husson with a 7 p.m. start.

Simmons senior Julie Saltamartini (East Hampstead, N.H.) scored a goal and added an assist to become the program's all-time leader in career points with 139.

The game-winner came off Saltamartini's stick in the 18th minute of the first half when she ripped a shot from 10 yards out to the opposite corner of the cage. Junior Meghan Fontaine (Westminster, Mass.) set up the play with an assist.

The Sharks added an insurance goal with less than four minutes to play in the first frame. Saltamartini, flanked on the right side of the cage, sent a pass to the front of the goal to sophomore teammate Olivia Trull (Lowell, Mass.) who beat the keeper to the left side.

Colby-Sawyer junior Emily Hichborn (Exeter, N.H.) and junior Jordan Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) each had a pair of shots to lead the team.

Simmons goalie Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) earned her eighth victory of the season with four saves in 62:41. Sophomore Danielle Francis (Oxford, Mass.) did not face any shots in the final 7:19. Colby-Sawyer freshman goalie Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) collected a pair of saves in the loss.

Colby-Sawyer held a slim 6-5 advantage in penalty corners, while Simmons finished with a 9-7 edge in shots.
