Women's Soccer Scores Three First Half Goals for 3-0 Win over Rivier

Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 1, 2013 - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team scored three first half goals to defeat the Raiders of Rivier, 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Kelsey Field.  

The Chargers improve to 2-0 this season, while Rivier drops to 0-2.

Sophomore Tallon Tomasi (Williston, Vt.) put the home team in front 1-0 in the 12th minute. After the ball bounced back and forth between Colby-Sawyer forwards and Rivier defenders, Tomasi found the ball at her feet and calmly scored into the lower left corner of the net.

Less than four minutes later, senior Adrienne Bender (Wakefield, R.I.) scored the Chargers' second goal of the game. Bender received a cross from fellow Rhode Islander Liz Sullivan (West Warwick, R.I.). Bender moved into a tie for fifth place in career goals with 33. 

Colby-Sawyer scored once more in the first half at 25:34. Junior Heather Carroll (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored from just inside the 18-yard box off a feed from freshman Rachel Quaye (Westminster, Mass.).

Colby-Sawyer outshot Rivier 38-6.

Sophomore keeper Karley Hamilton (Bradford, Vt.) made a pair of saves in preserving her second straight shutout victory. Rivier senior goalie Cassandra Brown (Somersworth, N.H.) kept the Raiders in the game with several spectacular saves. She finished the game with 14.

The Chargers will begin a stretch of three straight road games on Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. contest at Norwich. Rivier will host North Atlantic Conference (NAC) member Maine-Farmington on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 1:00 p.m.
