Women's Volleyball Falls to Rivier, 3-1

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 15, 2016 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's volleyball team fell to Rivier University, 3-1 in non-conference action on Thursday evening. Rivier won by scores of 25-21, 25-13, 21-25 and 25-14.

Rivier remains undefeated at 9-0 and will host a tri-match on Saturday to play Regis and Colby. Colby-Sawyer dips to 3-7 and will also host a tri-match on Saturday featuring Western New England and Framingham State. First serve is at 11 a.m.  

Rivier tallied 19 kills in the first set on .333 hitting en route to a 25-21 win. Colby-Sawyer kept the set close with eight block assists.

The visitors continued to swing efficiently in the second set with 16 kills and only one error for a .500 percentage. Rivier took the second 25-13.

Colby-Sawyer battled back in the third set to win 25-21 with strong hitting and solid defense. The Chargers hit .235 with 13 kills, while forcing nine hitting errors by Rivier.

Rivier closed the match with a 25-14 fourth set victory with 13 kills and two errors on .344 hitting.

The Raiders had three players record at least 12 kills in the match led by a match best 14 from senior Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.). She hit .346. Senior Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) was second on the team with 13 kills and 10 digs. Senior Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.) added 12 kills. Sophomore setter Hayley Macken (Clifton Park, N.Y.) collected a match0high 39 assists to go along with eight digs and five kills.

Colby-Sawyer was led by freshman Jaia Woodland (Charlottesville, Va.) and senior Gabrielle Rodriguez (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) who had 10 kills apiece. Woodland hit an impressive .412 and added three blocks. Sophomore Courtney Murray (Quincy, Mass.) added nine kills. Freshman Naarah Cox (Boston, Mass.) registered seven kills and a match-high four blocks. Freshman setter Olivia Goodrich (Epping, N.H.) finished with 33 assists.
