NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 24, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's volleyball team defeated Plymouth State, 3-0, in non-league action Thursday evening. The Chargers won by scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 25-22.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 18-10. The Chargers will host Anna Maria and Norwich on Saturday on the final day of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) regular season. Plymouth State drops to 10-19. The Panthers will close out the regular season on Saturday with a Little East Conference (LEC) home match against UMass Dartmouth.
After Plymouth State got on the board to open the match, Colby-Sawyer ran off 10-straight points capped by a
Naarah Cox (Boston, Mass.) kill to take a 10-1 lead and never looked back. The Panthers battled back and eventually closed the gap to two at 24-22 with a kill by Ari Linden (Lena, Ill.), but a Plymouth State service error gave the Chargers a 25-22 win.
The second set was back and forth and had eight ties and four lead changes. The frame was tied at 12-12 when Colby-Sawyer used a 6-1 run to create separation. Colby-Sawyer senior
Courtney Murray (Quincy, Mass.) had a couple of kills down the stretch to lift the home team to a 25-18 second set win.
The third stanza had five ties, which included one at 15-15. Colby-Sawyer once again used a spurt of six points, capped by a
Katarina Hornung (Stratton, Colo.) kill, to take a 21-15 advantage. Plymouth State's Linden brought the Panthers to within a couple of points with a pair of kills, but first-year
Maddie Bromley (Truckee, Calif.) ended the match with her seventh kill.
The Chargers were led by first-year
Sam Mohammed (Killingworth, Conn.). She had a match-high eight kills on .368 hitting. In addition to Bromley's seven kills, she added five aces and five digs. Hornung finished with six kills. First-year
Anna Allen (Los Angeles, Calif.) collected a match best 27 assists. Junior
Morgan Flynn (Reading, Mass.) had a team best 15 digs.
Junior Lex Bowers (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) led Plymouth State with seven kills. Linden finished with five kills on .308 hitting and added four blocks. Junior Alisha Flanagan (Milton, N.H.) posted a match best 17 digs.
