Men's Basketball Defeats NVU-Lyndon, 87-75

NEW LONDON, N.H. – December 11, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team earned an 87-75 home victory over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Tuesday evening.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 6-2 and will conclude the first semester with a 7 p.m. home game on Thursday against New England College. The two teams met in last year's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) championship game. Lyndon falls to 2-9 and will resume action in January.

Junior Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.) led the Chargers with 22 points, eight rebounds and four blocks. He moved into seventh place in career blocks with 74. Junior Patrick Coffey (Westford, Mass.) tied a game record with a 1.000 shooting percentage making all nine of his shots to finish with 20 points. Senior Jourdain Bell (Manchester, N.H.) added 19 points, while first-year Terrence Harvey Jr. (Smyrna, Ga.) contributed 10 points and seven steals.

Lyndon was led by Zach Falkenburg's (Kirkville, N.Y.) 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Senior Kevin Love (Bristol, Conn.) came off the bench to record 13 points and six rebounds in 11 minutes of action. Junior Damon Denteh (Jamaica, N.Y.) rounded out the double-figure scorers for the Hornets with 10.

The Chargers controlled the action in the first half from the opening tip. Colby-Sawyer raced out to a 13-3 lead, six minutes in, capped by a Dana Bean layup. The home team held a double digit lead for the remainder of the half, which ballooned to 29 points on a Patrick Coffey layup with 13 seconds to play. The Chargers shot 58.3% from the floor and held Lyndon to 31% to take a 55-26 lead after 20 minutes. Colby-Sawyer scored 20 points off 17 Lyndon miscues in the frame.

Lyndon slowly chipped away at the deficit in the second half forcing 15 Colby-Sawyer turnovers, while committing just seven of their own. The shooting efficiency also flipped as Lyndon was 51.6% and Colby-Sawyer made 37.9% in the second half. The visitors came within 16 points with 4:30 left after a trey from Falkenburg. Lyndon continued to fight and eventually cut the deficit to 12 after a pair of free throws from Kevin Love with a little more than a minute to play, but that would be as close as they would get.

Colby-Sawyer outrebounded Lyndon 41-33 and turned 24 turnovers into 29 points. Lyndon held a 30-23 edge in bench scoring.
