Field Hockey Edges Thomas, 2-1

WATERVILLE, Maine - September 30, 2018 - The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team edged Thomas College, 2-1, in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon. 

The Chargers improve to 7-4 and will play another out-of-conference contest on Thursday at Dean College. Colby-Sawyer has reached at least seven wins for the fifth-straight season. Thomas drops to 7-6. 

The home team began the scoring less than a minute into the contest. Britney Gregoire converted a pass from Keici Faulkingham to put Thomas on top 1-0. 

Eight minutes later, Colby-Sawyer would tie the score at 1-1 on Alie Jones' team leading sixth goal of the season. 

The game entered halftime still knotted up at 1-1. Thomas held advantages of 6-3 in shots and penalty corners. 

A senior duo from Colby-Sawyer connected, 14 minutes into the second half, with the eventual game-winner. Jordan Teixeira recorded her fourth assist of the season after setting up Colleen Burke with the scoring chance. Burke notched her second goal of the season and first game-winner. 

Abby Ladd made six saves in the win, while Jess Shatford contributed with her first defensive save of the season. Thomas goalie Leah Cruse made one stop. 

Colby-Sawyer was credited with just four shots, but scored on half of them to beat the Terriers for the second time in the past three meetings.
