Chargers Power Past Husson, 15-4

NEW LONDON, N.H. – March 25, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's lacrosse team defeated Husson University, 15-4, in non-conference action at the Sally Shaw Veitch Turf Field on Monday afternoon.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 4-2 and will resume Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. home game against Emmanuel. Husson, which was selected second in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) preseason poll, falls to 2-3 and will play at NVU-Lyndon on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Senior Sierra Schuster (Hopkinton, N.H.) led all players with eight points on five goals and three assists. Senior Brittany Ireland (Amherst, N.H.) had seven points on three goals and four assists. Ireland moved up three spots and is tied for fourth with Molly Mulcahy '18 in career assists with 46. Sophomore Briana Couture (South Hadley, Mass.) registered two goals, five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Senior Shae-Lyn Walker (Newington, N.H.) tallied a goal and two assists, while sophomore Jess Tattersall (Keene, N.H.) finished with two goals and an assist. 

The Eagles received a pair of goals from first-year Mary Cushing (Fairfield, Vt.). She added four draw controls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Sophomore Maddy Olsen (Bath, Maine) and junior Cali Newton (Rochester, N.H.) added a goal apiece. Olsen also collected a game-high four caused turnovers to go with five ground balls.

Colby-Sawyer junior goalie Kailyn Lapham (Medway, Mass.) earned the win. She played the first half and gave up two goals and made two saves. First-year Maddie Langdon (The Woodlands, Texas) played the second half and allowed two goals and made one save.

Husson goalie Mallory Burchill (Kennebunk, Maine) had 15 saves in the loss.

The Chargers scored the first nine goals of the game and led at 11-2 at the half. Colby-Sawyer outscored the Eagles 4-2 in the second half behind three Schuster goals.
