The GNAC seeks qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Commissioner. The NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority & Women’s Internship Grant Program has awarded the GNAC a two-year grant. This position will provide the intern the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the management of the day-to-day operations of a college athletic conference.

Under the guidance of the Commissioner, the Assistant Commissioner will be assigned the following responsibilities during the two-year period:

JOB DESCRIPTION
A.    Sportsmanship
    •    Take lead role in the support and enhancement of the GNAC sportsmanship initiative.

B.    Community
    •    Coordinate a series of community based coaching clinics featuring GNAC coaches.

C.    Conference SAAC coordinator
    •    Work with GNAC students and advisors to lead the GNAC SAAC .

D.    Assist the Director of Conference Communications and the conference Sports Information Director
    •    Produce and distribute regular press releases as well as other media documents that promote the visibility of the GNAC. Update website and statistics. Create a 2011 GNAC calendar.   

E.    Championships and awards
    •    Assist the commissioner in overseeing conference championships and playoffs.  Also oversee the GNAC Commissioner’s Cup Award program, NCAA and GNAC Sportsman of the Year Award, NCAA and GNAC Woman of the Year Award and the GNAC Institutional Sportsmanship Award.

F.    Oversee the GNAC men’s golf tournament

G.    Coordinate the 2010 GNAC Professional Development Seminar (PDS) for 200 attendees including coaches, assistants, AD’s, SID’s, ATC’s, Deans of Students and Presidents. This is a mammoth event to coordinate and the intern will work closely with the commissioner on everything from coordination of the conference location, menu, and keynote speakers to the publicity and feedback on the seminar.   

H.    Assist the commissioner with NCAA rules updates and new legislation

I.    The intern will take the lead role in working with the newly established GNAC Hall of Fame

J.    Equipment Agreements and corporate partners. The GNAC has several contracts with equipment distributors that need to be renewed and some sports that still need contracts. The intern will research potential partners/distributors and negotiate the best contract for each of the GNAC sports.

K.    Assist the commissioner with the development of the addition of Men’s Lacrosse as a GNAC championship sport

L.    Additional Duties/Projects to be assigned by the Commissioner.

Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree and a sincere desire to enter college athletics administration. Preferred experience in media relations, desktop publishing, website management, knowledge of StatCrew, and general computer knowledge. Strong writing, communication, organizational and multitasking skills, and a working knowledge of intercollegiate athletics are preferred.

This two-year, full-time position reports to and is evaluated by the conference Commissioner. The office will be based in Boston, Massachusetts. Salary will be $20,100 per year. Some benefits will be provided. Start date is July 1, 2009.

The GNAC is an NCAA Division III conference of 13 institutions: Albertus Magnus College (New Haven, CT); Emerson College (Boston, MA); Emmanuel College (Boston); Johnson & Wales University (Providence, RI); Lasell College (Newton); Mount Ida College (Newton); Norwich University (Northfield, VT); Pine Manor College (Chestnut Hill, MA); Rivier College (Nashua, NH); Saint Joseph College (West Hartford, CT); Saint Joseph’s of Maine; Simmons College (Boston); Suffolk University (Boston). In 2009-2010 the GNAC will sponsor championships in 15 sports for men and women. Husson College, Elms College, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Rhode Island College, University of Southern Maine and Wheelock College are currently associate members and in the 2011 Becker College and Daniel Webster College will become associate members in the sport of men’s lacrosse. The GNAC also enjoys outstanding professional partnerships with Children’s Hospital Sports Medicine Division, Doubletree Hotels, Fenway Printers, New Balance, Reading Trophy and Presto Sports.
