WINTHROP, Mass. – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference is pleased to unveil its 2018-19 Commissioner's Cup Standings through the end of the fall season, with the Colby-Sawyer College men and Saint Joseph's College of Maine women leading their respective standings.
The GNAC Commissioner's Cup annually recognizes the member institution that achieves the highest level of athletic success throughout the academic year. It is based upon a point system and standings are determined by percentages in order to reflect the number of GNAC sports that each member sponsors. Schools receive five points for winning a GNAC Championship, four points for advancing to a conference title game, three points for competing in a GNAC Semifinal, two points for qualifying for a GNAC Tournament, or one point for sponsoring the sport.

Colby-Sawyer, competing in its inaugural year as a full core GNAC member, grabbed five points for claiming the top spot in the GNAC Men's Cross Country Championship team standings. The Chargers men also advanced to the 2018 GNAC Men's Soccer Semifinals.
Following the Chargers in the men's standings, Johnson & Wales Unviersity was second overall after the Wildcats won the GNAC Men's Golf Championship for the second straight year and also advanced to the GNAC Men's Soccer title game. Saint Joseph's was third after winning the GNAC Men's Soccer Championship and grabbing three points from the GNAC Cross Country standings.
As for the SJC women, the Monks claimed both the GNAC Field Hockey and Women's Soccer Championships this fall. Saint Joe's also collected three points from the GNAC Cross Country standings and advanced to the GNAC Women's Volleyball Tournament.
After the Monks in the standings was Emmanuel College in second after the Saints won the GNAC Women's Cross Country team title and its women's soccer program lost in the GNAC Semifinals.
Colby-Sawyer and JWU tied for third place, as the Chargers won the GNAC Women's Tennis Championship over the Wildcats in late October. Colby-Sawyer also got three points in cross country, field hockey and women's volleyball, while JWU won the GNAC Women's Volleyball Championship for the fourth straight year.
Johnson & Wales swept the Commissioner's Cups in 2017-18. Back in 2016-17, the Lasell College men and JWU women took home the hardware, while the JWU men and Emmanuel women won the prestigious awards during the 2015-16 acadeimc year.

The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 13 member institutions and over 3,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Founded in 1995, the GNAC annually sponsors and administers 20 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunity and community involvement in an effort to enhance the student-athlete experience.
